New Delhi: Delhi govt is set to initiate action against Fortis Hospital in Shalimar Bagh after a district magistrate-led inquiry found multiple irregularities and alleged negligence in patient care, CMO officials said Thursday.

The probe was ordered by chief minister Rekha Gupta following a complaint received during a public hearing at Chief Minister Jan Seva Sadan. A family alleged that their son, who had sustained stab injuries in Shalimar Bagh, was denied immediate treatment by the hospital and that money was demanded before medical care was provided. The family claimed the delay contributed to his death.

Acting on CM’s directions, a team led by central-north district magistrate S S Parihar, along with officials from the health department, MCD, fire department and other agencies, inspected the hospital Thursday.

According to CMO, the inspection revealed alleged misuse of building by-laws, illegal construction, deficiencies in fire safety arrangements, misuse of basement space, and serious lapses in adherence to standard operating procedures governing medical treatment.

The inquiry team also examined CCTV footage and emergency department records. Officials said the footage showed the injured youth had walked into the emergency ward on his own, indicating that timely medical intervention could potentially have saved his life.

A detailed inquiry report is being prepared, and further action will follow, officials said.

In a statement, Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, said that Fortis remains committed to the highest standards of patient care, clinical excellence and regulatory compliance. ā€œWe will review the details once formally shared with us and extend our full cooperation to the authorities. Patient safety and well-being continue to be our foremost priority,ā€ the hospital said in a statement.
