DigiYatra to expand to 27 more airports by next year, 10 crore journeys completed

DigiYatra, the facial recognition-based airport travel platform, will be rolled out at 27 more airports by next year, the civil aviation ministry said on Saturday, as it highlighted the initiative’s growing adoption across the country, PTI reported.DigiYatra, which enables contactless and seamless passenger movement at airports using Facial Recognition Technology (FRT), is currently available at 38 airports.In a statement, the ministry said the DigiYatra app has facilitated more than 10 crore seamless journeys and recorded over 2.4 crore downloads.“By replacing manual document verification, the platform has reduced average airport entry processing times from 15 seconds down to just 5 seconds per passenger,” it said.Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said annual passenger traffic across Indian airports is projected to reach 50 crore by 2030 and nearly double to around 100 crore by 2040.“Right now, DigiYatra is active at 38 airports, and by next year, 27 more airports will be enabled,” he said.The minister added that the app currently supports 11 languages, and the aim is to add support for 11 more regional languages by the end of this year.The ministry also said passenger data shared through DigiYatra remains encrypted and is securely stored on the user’s device. The data is shared only for a limited duration with the origin airport for immediate verification purposes.
