Turkiye’s inflation eases to 32.6% in May

Turkiye’s annual consumer inflation eased to 32.61 per cent in May 2026, down from 35.41 per cent in the same month last year, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). On a monthly basis, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 1.71 per cent in May, compared to a 1.53 per cent increase recorded in May 2025.

The CPI increased by 16.61 per cent compared to December 2025, while the 12-month moving average climbed 32.24 per cent. In May 2024, annual inflation had stood significantly higher at 75.45 per cent, indicating a continued moderation in price pressures over the past two years, TurkStat said in a press release.

Among the 174 subclasses under the Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose (COICOP) five-digit level, 137 subclasses recorded price increases in May, while 28 subclasses declined and 9 remained unchanged.

Monthly CPI rose by 1.71 per cent, while core inflation excluding food and energy increased by 31.30 per cent annually and 2.87 per cent monthly.
The CPI rose 16.61 per cent from December 2025, indicating inflationary pressures remain elevated despite moderation.

Core inflation, measured by CPI excluding unprocessed food, energy, alcoholic beverages, tobacco and gold, rose by 31.30 per cent year-on-year (YoY) and 2.87 per cent month-on-month (MoM). The core index also increased by 14.93 per cent compared to December 2025, while its 12-month moving average reached 31.74 per cent.
