'Hercule': Edward Bluemel lands iconic Hercule Poirot role in new Agatha Christie drama series

Edward Bluemel, best known for his role in ‘My Lady Jane’, has been cast as Detective Hercule Poirot in a brand new drama series titled ‘Hercule’. The six-part show will follow the beloved Belgian detective as he solves his very first cases in London, long before becoming the world’s most legendary sleuth. Filming is set to begin this summer in Liverpool, England.According to Variety, the series has been described as an “intimate study of Hercule the man and an epic portrait of Britain between the wars,” taking a closer look at three of Agatha Christie’s most celebrated stories while also charting Hercule’s early friendships and rivalries, including his burgeoning relationship with Captain Arthur Hastings, his first encounters with Scotland Yard’s James Japp, and his introduction to one particular nemesis.

What Edward Bluemel said about taking on the role

Bluemel expressed his excitement about stepping into such an iconic part. “I feel very lucky to have been trusted with such an iconic character who has been played by so many great actors,” he said. “I can’t wait to continue Hercule’s legacy.”Executive producer James Prichard, representing Agatha Christie Limited, also welcomed the casting warmly. “My father had the privilege of working with David Suchet for nearly 25 years, and I now have the good fortune of being able to share my great grandmother’s brilliant stories with a new generation of viewers,” he said. “Edward Bluemel is an extremely talented performer and will make a great addition to the long line of actors that have played this celebrated character. I cannot wait to see Edward on screen as Hercule Poirot.”

Who is behind ‘Hercule’

The series has been written by Benji Walters, known for ‘Code of Silence’ and ‘The Leopard’. Jonny Campbell, whose previous credits include ‘Dracula’ and ‘Am I Being Unreasonable?’ , will direct the first two episodes, while Charlie Palmer serves as series producer.‘Hercule’ will premiere on BritBox in North America and on BBC One in the UK.
