'Karuppu', Dridam, 'Kenatha Kanom': New south movies to watch on OTT this week

The second week of June has delivered an exciting lineup of South Indian releases across major OTT platforms. Viewers have several choices this week, ranging from fantasy action entertainers to crime thrillers.Among the notable releases are Suriya’s fantasy action film Karuppu, Sreenath Bhasi’s action thriller Pongala, and many more.

‘Karuppu’ starts streaming

Suriya’s blockbuster fantasy action drama ‘Karuppu’ has officially made its OTT debut. Directed by RJ Balaji, the film began streaming on Amazon Prime Video on June 12 after enjoying a successful theatrical run.The movie is available in its original Tamil version and has also been released in several dubbed languages. The cast includes Trisha Krishnan, RJ Balaji, Shivada, Yogi Babu and Swasika in important roles.Blending fantasy elements with action and emotional storytelling, ‘Karuppu’ turned out to be the biggest comeback for Suriya after a series of underwhelming films over the past few years.

Sreenath Bhasi’s ‘Pongala’

Malayalam action thriller ‘Pongala’ has also joined the list of new digital releases this week. Headlined by Sreenath Bhasi, the film is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.The story unfolds against the backdrop of Kerala’s coastal belt and draws inspiration from incidents linked to the Vypin-Munambam region during the early 2000s. Directed by AB Binil, the film explores conflicts, power struggles and survival within a fishing community.The cast includes Baburaj, Sampath Ram, Kichu Tellus, Sudheer Karamana, Alencier Ley Lopez, Sminu Sijo and Murugan Martin. Although ‘Pongala’ was not a hit at the box office, it is expected to gain much attention after the OTT release.

Shane Nigam’s ‘Dridam’

Crime thriller ‘Dridam’ has begun its OTT run on JioHotstar following its theatrical release earlier this year. Directed by Martin Joseph, the film stars Shane Nigam in the lead role.The story follows a police officer whose routine posting takes an unexpected turn when a murder case lands before him. After human remains are discovered, he is given a limited period to identify the culprit and solve the mystery. The investigation becomes increasingly complex. The film also features Dinesh Prabhakar and Saniya Fathima in key roles and is available in multiple language versions.

‘Athiradi’ gears up for OTT release

Malayalam action-comedy ‘Athiradi’ is preparing to make its digital debut on SonyLIV on June 19. The film stars Tovino Thomas and Basil Joseph in lead roles.Directed by Arun Anirudhan, the story revolves around a spirited college student determined to bring back a discontinued campus festival. His efforts soon trigger a rivalry with a former gangster who has chosen a completely different path in life. The movie also has a surprising cameo appearance. ‘Athiradi’ received good reviews and turned out to be a superhit.

‘Kenatha Kanom’

Yogi Babu’s Tamil comedy-drama ‘Kenatha Kanom’ is set to begin streaming on JioHotstar from June 16. The film blends comedy, mystery and social commentary through a village-based story. Set in a drought-hit region, the narrative follows residents struggling to overcome a severe water crisis. Their search for a solution eventually leads to a surprising discovery that changes the direction of the story.Yogi Babu plays Manivasagam who is a temple sculptor known for his humour and outspoken personality. As events unfold, he becomes closely involved in the mystery surrounding the village.
