Producer prices declined for both domestic and export markets in April. Prices for products sold on the home market fell 2.1 per cent after increasing 1.9 per cent in March, while prices for foreign markets declined 1.8 per cent following a 3.3 per cent rise in the previous month, Insee said in a press release.
Excluding energy-related products such as hydrocarbons, refined petroleum products and electricity, producer prices increased 0.7 per cent over the month after rising 0.3 per cent in March. Annual growth excluding energy accelerated to 1.5 per cent from 0.4 per cent in March.
France’s industrial producer prices fell 2 per cent MoM in April 2026 after March’s rebound, as easing oil prices reduced energy-related cost pressures, according to Insee.
Annual producer price inflation rose to 2 per cent.
Excluding energy, prices increased 0.7 per cent over the month.
Chemical prices surged sharply, while transport equipment prices remained stable.
The slowdown in refined petroleum product prices was a major factor behind the overall monthly decline. Prices for refined petroleum products rose 4.1 per cent in April, sharply lower than the 53.1 per cent surge recorded in March and 9.8 per cent increase in February. Insee attributed the earlier spike to the Middle East conflict that began on February 28, 2026, which had pushed global oil prices sharply higher. Despite the moderation, prices for refined petroleum products were still up 70.6 per cent YoY after a 51.2 per cent increase in March.
Meanwhile, prices of ‘other industrial products’ accelerated 1.3 per cent MoM after a 0.3 per cent increase in March. The rise was driven by higher prices for other organic basic chemicals, which climbed 18.0 per cent after increasing 7.8 per cent in March. Over the year, prices in this category increased 2.5 per cent after rising 0.9 per cent in March.
Transport equipment prices remained stable over the month after increasing 0.2 per cent in March, while annual growth held steady at 0.9 per cent.
