UPSC Prelims 2026 Result Out: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has declared the Civil Services Preliminary Examination (CSE) 2026 results, clearing the way for thousands of aspirants to move to the next stage of India’s most competitive recruitment process. While the release of the result marks the end of the Prelims phase, qualified candidates now face a series of deadlines before the Civil Services Main Examination begins in August.This year, 13,343 candidates have been shortlisted for the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026 against 1,016 vacancies notified by the Commission. Last year, 14,161 candidates had qualified for the Mains stage against 1,087 vacancies, indicating a slightly smaller pool of candidates progressing this year.What qualified candidates need to do nowUPSC has announced that candidates who have cleared the Preliminary Examination must complete mandatory online formalities through the Commission’s portal between June 19 and June 28, 2026.During this window, candidates will be required to:• Pay the Main Examination fee of Rs 200 (except exempted categories such as SC, ST, PwBD and female candidates)• Verify or update personal details• Submit information related to scribes, assistive devices and large-font question papers, where applicable• Fill in cadre preferences• Complete final submission of the application form The Commission has clarified that candidates who fail to complete this process will not be issued e-Admit Cards for the Main Examination.UPSC CSE 2026: Important dates at a glance

What happens after the Mains?The Civil Services Main Examination is the second stage of the three-tier selection process and consists of nine descriptive papers, including Essay, General Studies papers, Optional Subject papers and language papers.Candidates who qualify in the written examination will be called for the Personality Test, commonly known as the UPSC interview. The final merit list will be prepared on the basis of marks secured in the Main Examination and the Personality Test.When will cut-offs and answer keys be released?Candidates eager to know the cut-off marks will have to wait until the end of the examination cycle. UPSC has stated that the marks, cut-off scores and answer keys of the Preliminary Examination will be published only after the final results of both the Civil Services Examination 2026 and the Indian Forest Service Examination 2026 are declared.For now, the focus shifts from clearing Prelims to preparing for the descriptive Mains examination, which will begin in just over two months.
