Shikshak Sena seeks transfer of Pune education officer over alleged irregularities
Inquiry underway as Shikshak Sena alleges delays and misconduct by education officer in Pune

PUNE: The Shikshak Sena has demanded the immediate transfer of secondary education officer Bhausaheb Karekar, claiming administrative irregularities and delays in handling key education-related matters since January 2024.In a complaint submitted to Maharashtra education minister Dada Bhuse, Shikshak Sena state vice-president Sambhaji Shirsat claimedthat Karekar had committed several irregularities in matters related to teacher adjustment, transfer approvals, compassionate appointments and other administrative processes.According to Shirsat, the organisation’s complaint has been taken seriously and directions have been issued for a detailed inquiry into the allegations and for submission of a proposal regarding disciplinary action against the officer.“The education officer has deliberately delayed files related to teacher adjustment, transfers and compassionate appointments, causing hardship to schools and teachers across Pune district. Such delays have allegedly been used to facilitate corrupt practices,” Shirsat claimed. The complaint also referred to an earlier representation submitted in December 2025 by former leader of opposition Vijay Wadettiwar to the education commissioner. In that complaint, Wadettiwar had alleged more than 250 irregularities in Karekar’s functioning and sought his suspension. He had also alleged that large sums of money were accepted in connection with some of the disputed cases.Shirsat further alleged that several proposals involving widows seeking compassionate appointments and other eligible candidates have remained pending for years. “Many deserving candidates have suffered because of the officer’s administrative approach. Strict action should be taken and he should be transferred immediately,” he said. The Shikshak Sena leader also alleged that Karekar frequently conducts official work from schools instead of being available in his office, making it difficult for members of the public and stakeholders to access him.An inquiry into the allegations concerning Karekar’s functioning is currently being conducted by deputy director of education Dr Suchita Patekar, according to the complaint.Repeated attempts to obtain Karekar’s response were not successful.
