US, Iran sign pact to end Middle East conflict

US President Donald Trump and Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian yesterday signed an agreement to end the Middle East conflict and revive talks on Iran’s nuclear programme, with Tehran agreeing to reduce its enriched uranium stockpile in return for relief from US sanctions.

Trump reportedly put his signature to the memorandum of understanding during dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles following a G7 summit.

Presidents Donald Trump and Masoud Pezeshkian have signed a pact to end the Middle East conflict and revive talks on Iran’s nuclear programme.
Tehran will reduce its enriched uranium in return for relief from US sanctions.
The deal comes into force immediately and sets a 60-day timeline for talks on a long-term settlement.
Iran can resume unrestricted oil exports and the Strait of Hormuz will reopen.

The deal comes into force immediately and sets a 60-day timeline for negotiations on a broader, long-term settlement.

The agreement will enable Iran to resume unrestricted oil exports and aid the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz that was disrupted during the conflict.

The document “was finalised with the signatures of the Presidents,” Iran’s official news agency quoted the country’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei as saying.  “Now it is time to test the implementation of the agreement,” he said.

Iran said an in-person signing ceremony was no longer needed.

Once a final agreement is reached on the Islamic republic’s nuclear programme, the United States will also facilitate the release of a $300 billion reconstruction fund supported by regional nations, media reports said citing the leaked deal document.
