March was weaker: textile exports fell *.** per cent year-on-year to $*.*** billion, although they rose *.** per cent from February. Ready-made garments were up *.** per cent in the official nine-month data, but knitwear fell *.** per cent and cotton cloth dropped **.** per cent.
The category split is more revealing. TexPro’s January ****-March **** monthly export data showed Pakistan’s supplied textile-and-apparel basket at about $**.** billion in ****. In Q* ****, it stood at roughly $*.** billion, down *.* per cent from Q* ****. Apparel, the value-added core, fell *.* per cent to about $*.** billion; fabric dropped * per cent to about $*** million. Yarn moved the other way, rising **.* per cent to $*** million, while fibre grew from a small base to $** million.
