Bangladesh’s banking crisis: The $15.6bn supplier exposure map

The $**.*bn foreign-supplier exposure map

Every shipment depends on one transaction: confirmation by a foreign correspondent bank. Without it, cargo does not move. TexPro data through Q* **** show $**.** billion of exposure in this chain, nearly nine of every ten dollars in the six largest supplier countries.

China holds $*.** billion three of every five dollars. India holds $*.** billion. Brazil ($*** million), Pakistan ($*** million), the US ($*** million) and Taiwan ($*** million) form the next tier. The top six carry $**.** billion, **.* per cent of the total, the exposure pool being repriced as Bangladeshi bank credit deteriorates.

Concentration alone is manageable. Concentration flowing through a stressed banking system is where counterparty risk becomes systemic.
