“From the time I started playing cricket, Kane Williamson has been one of the most technically compact and magnificent batters I have seen. Balance, timing, and that trademark calm at the crease came together to make his batting one of the most consistently pleasing sights in world cricket. A thorough gentleman and a true role model for youngsters.”Tendulkar also suggested that Williamson’s departure from international cricket would be welcomed by opposition bowlers who spent years trying to find a way past the elegant right-hander.“His retirement will probably be received with unexpected relief in more than a few bowling camps. Wishing him luck and success in his next chapter.”Williamson retires as New Zealand’s highest run-scorer in international cricket, finishing with 19,346 runs across formats. His remarkable tally includes 48 international centuries and six double-centuries, achievements that place him among the greatest players in the country’s history. The veteran batter’s final appearance for New Zealand came in the opening Test of the ongoing three-match series against England at Lord’s. Williamson was dismissed for a duck in the first innings and scored 18 in the second as New Zealand suffered a 115-run defeat.Beyond his batting records, Williamson leaves behind an outstanding leadership legacy. He captained New Zealand in 40 Tests, winning 22 matches, losing 10 and drawing eight. Among Kiwi captains, only Stephen Fleming has recorded more Test victories. In ODI cricket, Williamson led his country in 91 matches, guiding New Zealand to 46 wins, 40 defeats, one tie and four no-results. He also remains the most successful T20I captain in New Zealand history, registering 39 victories in 75 matches. As tributes continue to pour in from across the cricketing world, Tendulkar’s words captured the widespread respect Williamson earned throughout his career, not only for his achievements with the bat but also for the humility and sportsmanship that defined him both on and off the field.
