Brazil’s cotton export boom is redrawing Asian trade

For Asian spinners negotiating supply contracts for **** and ****, these numbers represent more than a monthly export milestone. They signal a rare opportunity to diversify sourcing, renegotiate origin mixes, and secure forward contracts while Brazilian cotton retains a meaningful pricing advantage over competing origins.

Where the cotton is flowing

TexPro data covering the five quarters through Q* **** reveal the scale of Brazil**;s growing importance in Asian supply chains. Seven major spinning markets China, Turkey, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Pakistan, India, and Indonesia accounted for **.* per cent of global Brazil-origin raw cotton imports in Q* ****, purchasing $*.** billion out of the global total of $*.** billion.

China remained the largest buyer during Q* ****, importing $***.* million worth of Brazilian cotton, up **.* per cent YoY. However, ANEA**;s June shipment data indicate a sharp shift in destination markets. China accounted for only *.* per cent of June exports, while Bangladesh emerged as the largest destination with **.* per cent of shipments, followed by Turkey at **.* per cent and Pakistan at **.* per cent.

Vietnam stands out as the only major market moving in the opposite direction. TexPro data show its Brazil-origin cotton imports declined **.* per cent year on year (YoY) in Q* ****, contrasting with stronger buying across most other major Asian spinning economies.
