Canada and Turkiye have launched negotiations towards a comprehensive free-trade agreement.
The move follows exploratory discussions announced by trade ministers in early June 2026.
For manufacturers, importers and sourcing teams, the talks matter for future market access, competitiveness and supply-chain planning.
Technical teams will set the scope and prepare the first round of negotiations.
The launch was announced after a meeting between Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkiye on the margins of the NATO Summit in Ankara on July 7, 2026.
Canada and Turkiye said closer economic cooperation would support economic growth, job creation and competitiveness, while strengthening supply chains and helping businesses operate in a more dynamic global economy.
In the coming months, technical teams from both countries will work to define the scope and ambition of the agreement and prepare for the first round of negotiations. For trade-facing manufacturers, importers and sourcing teams, the next point to watch is how the proposed agreement’s scope is framed before formal negotiating rounds begin.
