China’s State Administration for Market Regulation and the Ministry of Commerce has sought public opinion on a draft amendment to the e-commerce law.
With 20 provisions, the draft would further clarify the rights and obligations of platforms, in-platform merchants and other players.
It calls for a wider range of regulations, stronger support for oversight and stronger coordination among regulators.

Targeting cross-sector operations in the platform economy, the draft calls for stronger coordination among regulators. Measures include applying consistent oversight to both online and offline businesses and strengthening cross-department collaboration.
It also proposes steps to deepen opening-up and cooperation in the sector by promoting alignment with international rules and standards, encouraging industry self-discipline and orderly overseas expansion, and adding measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of companies, a local media outlet reported.
