China unveils five-year port-of-entry modernisation plan

China has unveiled a five-year plan to modernise its ports of entry during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), as part of efforts to expand openness and promote international cooperation, as per the joint statement issued by the General Administration of Customs (GAC) and the National Development and Reform Commission.China will make significant progress in port modernisation by 2030, with a more efficient port network, upgraded infrastructure, wider application of smart technologies, smoother cross-border connectivity, stronger governance and more effective security measures.

For trade, the plan signals safer, greener, better-governed ports, with basic modernisation aimed for 2035.

Zhang Baofeng, deputy head of the GAC said: “The plan serves as the blueprint for the country’s port development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period.” China will focus on building ports of entry that are safer, more efficient, smarter, greener and better governed under the rule of law, while accelerating the development of world-class modern ports, he added.

By 2035, China aims to have basically completed the modernisation of its ports of entry, providing strong support for high-quality development and national security, added the joint statement.
