China’s air cargo volume rises 6% in H1 2026

China’s civil aviation sector recorded steady expansion in the first half of this year, with cargo and mail transport volume increasing 6 per cent year on year (Yoy) to 5.073 million tonnes, according to the data released by State Council Information Office (SCIO).Total transport turnover in the country’s civil aviation sector rose 6.4 per cent year on year (YoY) to 83.37 billion tonne-kilometres during the January-June period.

Cargo and mail volume grew 6 per cent to 5.073 million tonnes, a marker for air-freight-linked sourcing flows.
China added 19 international cargo destinations, while Asia-Europe passenger and cargo volumes handled by Chinese airlines rose over 20 per cent.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) said international transport was a major highlight of the sector’s first-half performance.

Passenger and cargo volumes handled by Chinese airlines in the Asia-Europe market both surged over 20 per cent YoY.

The sector’s flight regularity rate reached 93.5 per cent in the first half, indicating improved operational efficiency, added the CAAC.
