Delhi University opens first-ever one-year PG admissions, 14,600 seats up for grabs: Check complete details here
Delhi University has introduced one-year postgraduate programmes for the first time, opening admissions for 46 new courses in the 2026 academic session. The university will also continue admissions to its 74 two-year PG programmes, taking the total intake to around 14,600 seats. The online registration process will remain open until July 11.

Delhi University (DU) has rolled out one of the biggest changes to its postgraduate admission system, introducing one-year master’s programmes for the first time. The new courses will be available from the 2026-27 academic session and are open to students who have completed a four-year undergraduate degree from Delhi University. The university has already started the online registration process for postgraduate admissions. Eligible candidates can submit their applications till July 11.

46 one-year PG courses introduced

In a significant academic expansion, Delhi University will offer admissions to 46 one-year postgraduate programmes this year. These courses have been designed for students who have graduated from DU under the four-year undergraduate framework. The introduction of these programmes marks a major departure from the university’s long-standing two-year postgraduate model and creates a new pathway for eligible students to complete a master’s degree in one academic year.

Over 1,100 seats added to postgraduate admissions

The newly introduced one-year programmes will have more than 1,100 seats across different disciplines. Alongside them, Delhi University will continue admissions to its 74 two-year postgraduate programmes, which together have around 13,500 seats. With both sets of programmes running simultaneously, the university will offer admissions to about 14,600 postgraduate seats in the 2026 admission cycle, substantially increasing its overall postgraduate intake.

Existing two-year programmes remain unchanged

The launch of one-year master’s programmes does not affect the existing postgraduate courses. The university will continue to admit students to its two-year programmes under the current admission process. The new one-year courses have been introduced as an additional academic option for eligible graduates, allowing both programme structures to operate side by side.

Registration closes on July 11

The online registration window for postgraduate admissions is currently open, and the university has set July 11 as the last date to submit applications. With the introduction of one-year master’s programmes and an expanded seat matrix, this year’s postgraduate admission exercise marks a significant shift in Delhi University’s academic landscape. It is the first time the university is offering two distinct postgraduate pathways, reflecting a major restructuring of its higher education framework while increasing opportunities for students seeking admission to master’s programmes.
