Digital platform for managing wind energy supply chain launched

New Delhi: Minister for new and renewable energy Pralhad Joshi on Monday launched WT-MARUT, the country’s first dedicated digital platform for managing the wind energy supply chain. The portal is expected to strengthen India’s domestic wind manufacturing ecosystem and support the country’s clean energy expansion. The platform will facilitate end-to-end tracking of wind energy components, from manufacturing facilities to project sites, ensuring greater traceability, accountability and compliance across the entire supply chain, Joshi said.Addressing an event on Global Wind Day, the minister said the Indian industry has demonstrated its strength across the wind energy value chain, with capabilities spanning nacelles and blades to wind turbine towers and advanced gearboxes, and is well-positioned to expand its footprint in global markets.India added a record 6.1 GW of new wind capacity in 2025-26, its highest-ever annual addition. With over 56.1 GW of installed capacity, India is now the world’s fourth-largest wind energy market. This, however, accounts for less than 5% of the country’s estimated wind potential of 1,164 GW.“We are confident that the sector will achieve 100 GW of wind installations by 2030 and 155 GW by 2035,” Joshi said. The minister also released a publication and three reports covering manufacturing, project development and long-term power system planning in the wind sector.Girish Tanti, chairman of the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association, termed wind as one of the most cost-competitive and grid-friendly renewable energy technologies. “…. will play a critical role in achieving India’s target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 and its net-zero ambition by 2070,” he said.
