Imtiaz Ali has explained why Diljit Dosanjh has stayed away from the main promotions of ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga,’ which released in theaters worldwide on Friday. The film stars Diljit, Sharvari, and Vedang Raina in lead roles, but Imtiaz and Vedang have done most of the promotional work so far. The filmmaker said Diljit is busy with overseas concerts, while Sharvari is also shooting abroad, and the team knew this situation would come up when they planned the film.
Imtiaz Ali explains Diljit Dosanjh’s absence
According to Hindustan Times, Imtiaz addressed the issue during an interaction with India Today. He was asked about actors avoiding media interviews and using social media instead to promote their films. The question also referred to stars such as Shah Rukh Khan, who have skipped traditional media interactions for some recent projects.Imtiaz said, “I can’t represent the whole film industry on this one, but for us, Diljit is not here because he’s doing shows abroad, Sharvari is not there because she is shooting abroad.”He added, “When we got a release date, we knew this is going to happen in fact when we were taking the dates from Diljit to shoot for this film, we knew that he is going to perform at concerts when we will be releasing this film. But at that point of time, what was more important was the casting of the film rather than the actor’s ability to promote.”Imtiaz said the team did not avoid promotions as a strategy. “We don’t have the strategy of not doing promotions or interactions, and I don’t know which is a better or a worse strategy. We do this because we are habituated to do this. We have made a film and we want it to reach across.”

Imtiaz also responded when asked if actors now avoid media interactions to stay away from controversies. He said, “No, I don’t think so. It might just hinge on whether it might be effective or not. If somebody is not doing promotions, they must be thinking that it is not important and will not help the prospect of the film.”Diljit had earlier missed the trailer launch of ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga.’ In a video message, he said, “Hello folks, this is Diljit Dosanjh. Love and greetings to all. You are going to watch the trailer of Main Vaapas Aaunga, so enjoy it. I am in Texas, so I could not come. Tonight’s show in Texas is sold out.”He added, “I am taking care of some things here; you do the same thing. Jaldi Main Bhi Vaapas Aaunga (I will also come back soon). Enjoy the trailer.
