Driven by 6.2% manufacturing growth, India’s April IIP grows 4.9% YoY

The rate of growth in India’s index of industrial production (IIP) for April this year was 4.9 per cent year on year (YoY). The quick estimate of IIP stood at 118.9 in April against 113.4 in the same month last year.

The growth rate of the manufacturing sector in the month was 6.2 per cent YoY. The IIP for manufacturing in the month stood at 119.3, according to a release from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).

The growth rate in India’s index of industrial production (IIP) for April was 4.9 per cent YoY, while the IIP was 118.9.

The IIP for textile manufacturing was 132.6, while its growth rate was 15.6 per cent YoY.
The IIP for apparel manufacturing was 91.6, while its growth declined by 7 per cent YoY.

The ministry has revised the base year of the all India IIP from 2011-12 to 2022-23 to make the index more representative of the current structure and dynamics of the industrial sector.

Within manufacturing, 17 out of 23 industry groups recorded a positive YoY growth in April.

The IIP for textile manufacturing was 132.6 in April, while its rate of growth was 15.6 per cent YoY. The cumulative IIP for fiscal 2025-26 for the sub-sector was 119.4, while its rate of growth in the fiscal was 2.3 per cent YoY.

The IIP for apparel manufacturing was 91.6 in April, while its growth declined by 7 per cent YoY in the month. The cumulative IIP for fiscal 2025-26 for the sub-sector was 98.5, while its growth dropped by 3.1 per cent YoY in the fiscal, a release from the ministry said.

The IIP for leather and related products manufacturing was 98.3 in April, while its rate of growth was 1.5 per cent YoY. The cumulative IIP for fiscal 2025-26 for the sub-sector was 100, while its growth in the fiscal dropped by 0.2 per cent YoY.
