Burano is Venice’s ‘Rainbow Island’. It’s only a small boat ride from Venice and one of Italy’s most photogenic islands. Every house is painted in bright shades of pink, turquoise, yellow, orange, and green.
As per local legend, fishermen painted their homes in vibrant colours so they could recognise them even through thick fog while returning from the sea. Today, homeowners must seek official approval before changing the colour of their houses, preserving Burano’s iconic appearance.
