Germany’s real new manufacturing orders rose 1.9 per cent MoM in May 2026 and 6.2 per cent YoY, according to provisional figures of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).
Foreign orders grew 2.2 per cent, led by an 11.2 per cent rise from the euro area, relevant for exporters and sourcing teams.
Manufacturing turnover rose 1.8 per cent from April and 4.2 per cent YoY.
For textile exporters, apparel manufacturers and sourcing teams tracking European demand signals, the data point to a broader improvement in orders, though the three-month comparison remained softer: orders from March to May 2026 were 0.2 per cent lower than in the previous three months. Excluding large-scale orders, the three-month measure was up 4.1 per cent.
The increase in May was mainly driven by an 85 per cent MoM jump in orders for the manufacture of other transport equipment, supported by several large-scale orders.
The capital goods orders rose by 2.2 per cent, intermediate goods by 1.4 per cent and consumer goods by 2.4 per cent in May. Foreign orders increased by 2.2 per cent, with orders from the euro area up 11.2 per cent and orders from outside the euro area down 3.2 per cent. Domestic orders rose by 1.3 per cent.
Real manufacturing turnover in May 2026 was 1.8 per cent higher than in April on a seasonally and calendar-adjusted basis and 4.2 per cent above May 2025 on a calendar-adjusted basis. The revised April new orders to a 3.2 per cent MoM decline, compared with the provisional fall of 3.8 per cent, according to provisional figures.
