PUNE: The government should develop a new academic model to integrate the Warkari tradition into higher education, said Dr Rahul Vishwanath Karad, Executive President of MIT World Peace University (MIT WPU). He said educationists should come together to explore how the values of the Warkari movement can be incorporated into higher education by combining science, spirituality and the Wari tradition.Dr Karad made the remarks while welcoming the palkhis of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj as they arrived in Pune during the annual Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage. The ceremonial welcome was organised by MAEER’s MIT World Peace University amid devotional chants of “Dnyanoba Tukaram” and the rhythmic beats of cymbals and mridang.The palkhis were welcomed by Dr Rahul Vishwanath Karad and Dr Aditi Rahul Karad, Director of Vishwaraj Hospital.

Speaking to mediapersons, Dr Karad said, “The Dnyaneshwari and Tukaram Gatha should be translated into all languages so that the younger generation can connect with them. In this age of science, we should follow the vision of Prof Dr Vishwanath D Karad that world peace can be achieved through the harmony of science and spirituality. Educationists and thinkers should come together to examine how the Warkari tradition can be meaningfully integrated into higher education.”He added that MIT World Peace University had earlier organised a “Warkari Sammelan” to encourage discussions on the subject and said the government could now consider introducing new education policies based on such deliberations.Among those present were Usha Vishwanath Karad, Dr Mangesh T Karad, Executive President of ADT University, former Nagpur University Vice Chancellor Dr S N Pathan, author and speaker Dr Sanjay Upadhye, along with university officials, faculty members and students.
