NEW DELHI: India captain Shubman Gill added another record to his name on Wednesday, becoming the third-fastest Indian batter to reach 150 in a One-Day International (ODI) innings.Gill brought up the milestone in the 42nd over of India’s innings against Afghanistan in the second ODI in Lucknow. Facing Allah Ghazanfar, he worked a delivery towards long-off for a single to complete his 150. The India skipper acknowledged the crowd’s applause after reaching the landmark.Fewest balls to 150 for India in ODIs:

  • 103 – Ishan Kishan vs Bangladesh, Chattogram, 2022
  • 106 – Virat Kohli vs Sri Lanka, Trivandrum, 2023
  • 108 – Shubman Gill vs Afghanistan, Lucknow, 2026*

  • 117 – Rohit Sharma vs Guwahati, 2018

Gill’s innings came after India found themselves at 96 for 2. He then joined forces with Ishan Kishan for a 224-run partnership that put India in control of the contest. Both batters went on to score centuries.The match also produced a rare record for Indian cricket. It was the first time two Indian batters had scored ODI centuries in 80 balls or fewer in the same innings. Overall, it was only the eighth such instance in ODI cricket.Kishan reached his century in 71 balls, making it the third-fastest ODI hundred against Afghanistan.Fastest ODI centuries against Afghanistan (by balls faced):

Earlier, Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and elected to bowl first.India, who lead the three-match series 1-0, handed an ODI debut to fast bowler Prince Yadav following his performances for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2026. Nitish Kumar Reddy missed the match because of a quadricep injury, while Kuldeep Yadav and Yashasvi Jaiswal returned to the side.Afghanistan also gave ODI debuts to Darwish Rasooli and Bilal Sami.
