India’s Reliance Q1 revenue climbs on strong retail performance

Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has reported record recurring quarterly earnings for the first quarter (Q1) of fiscal 2027 (FY27) ended June 30, 2026, supported by robust performance in its retail business. The consolidated revenue rose 24.5 per cent year on year (YoY) to ₹340,257 crore (~$35.31 billion), while recurring EBITDA reached an all-time high of ₹54,067 crore (~$5.61 billion), up 10.1 per cent.

Mukesh D Ambani, chairman and managing director of RIL, said, “Reliance has made a steady start to FY27, with all businesses delivering strong operating performance. Our diverse business portfolio has once again demonstrated its resilience in a quarter which witnessed continuing geopolitical tensions and volatile commodity markets.”

Reliance Industries reported record recurring Q1 FY27 earnings, with revenue rising 24.5 per cent YoY to ₹340,257 crore (~$35.31 billion).
EBITDA went up 10.1 per cent to ₹54,067 crore (~$5.61 billion), and PAT rose 6.1 per cent to ₹23,196 crore (~$2.41 billion).
Retail revenue grew 7.4 per cent despite margin pressure.
Domestic polyester demand declined 18.1 per cent during the quarter.

The gross revenue climbed to ₹340,257 crore from ₹273,252 crore a year earlier. The increase was led by broad-based expansion in Reliance Retail and stronger O2C performance.

EBITDA margin, however, moderated to 15.9 per cent from 18 per cent in the corresponding quarter last year, reflecting higher investments in consumer-facing businesses and changes in business mix.

Retail growth continues despite margin pressure

Reliance Retail Ventures Limited (RRVL) reported revenue of ₹90,408 crore (~$9.38 billion), up 7.4 per cent YoY. Adjusted for the demerger of Reliance Consumer Products, revenue grew 11.6 per cent, driven by grocery, fashion and lifestyle.

EBITDA declined 1.1 per cent to ₹6,309 crore, while EBITDA margin moderated by 80 basis points (bps) to 7.9 per cent due to continued investments in digital commerce infrastructure.

Operationally, Reliance Retail expanded its footprint by opening 252 stores during the quarter, taking the total network to 20,169 stores covering 78.4 million square feet.

The retailer’s registered customer base increased 10.6 per cent YoY to 396 million, while total transactions surged 46.0 per cent to 568 million. Grocery digital commerce scaled rapidly, with average daily orders rising 116 per cent YoY.

In fashion and lifestyle, digital commerce accounted for 27.3 per cent of apparel and footwear revenue, while Ajio Rush recorded 136 per cent quarter-on-quarter order growth. Shein surpassed 30 million app installs, and Ajio Luxe expanded its portfolio to more than 1,000 brands.

Isha M Ambani, executive director, Reliance Retail Ventures Limited, said “Reliance Retail delivered resilient performance in Q1 FY27, with growth across the key consumptions baskets. Our continued investment in digital commerce underscores the transformative power of our digital platforms.”

“Our expanding customer base, widest store network, and growing omni-channel capabilities position us well to continue fulfilling every need, every dream, for every Indian, every day,” she added.

Polyester demand weakens

Reliance noted that domestic polyester demand weakened during the quarter. Overall polyester demand fell 18.1 per cent YoY, with polyester staple fibre (PSF) demand declining 25.8 per cent and polyester filament yarn (PFY) demand falling 22.5 per cent.
