India’s textile exports rise, apparel exports decline in June 2026



India’s textile exports rise, apparel exports decline in June 2026

In June ****, India**;s textile and apparel exports edged up to $*.*** billion from $*.*** billion in June ****, according to an analysis by the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI). Apparel exports declined to $*.*** billion from $*.*** billion, while textile exports increased to $*.*** billion from $*.*** billion a year earlier.

Category-wise, exports of cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups and handloom products increased *.** per cent to $*,***.** million during June. Man-made yarn, fabrics and made-ups exports rose *.** per cent to $***.** million. Jute manufacturing, including floor coverings, declined **.** per cent to $**.** million, while carpet exports slipped *.** per cent to $***.** million. Handicrafts excluding handmade carpets posted the strongest growth, rising **.** per cent to $***.** million, according to the latest trade data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

On a cumulative basis, India’s textile and apparel exports declined *.** per cent YoY to $*.*** billion during April–June ****, compared with $*.*** billion in the corresponding period of last year. Apparel exports fell **.** per cent to $*.*** billion, while textile exports increased *.** per cent to $*.*** billion. Within textiles, exports of cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups and handloom products rose *.** per cent to $*,***.** million, while man-made yarn, fabrics and made-ups increased *.** per cent to $*,***.** million. Jute manufacturing exports declined **.** per cent to $**.** million, carpet exports increased *.** per cent to $***.** million, and handicrafts excluding handmade carpets surged **.** per cent to $***.** million. The sector’s share in India’s total merchandise exports declined to *.** per cent during April–June **** from *.** per cent, a year earlier.

On the import side, raw cotton and cotton waste imports surged ***.** per cent YoY to $***.** million in June ****, while imports of textile yarn, fabrics and made-ups increased *.** per cent to $***.** million. During the April–June **** period, imports of raw cotton and cotton waste rose **.** per cent to $***.** million, whereas imports of textile yarn, fabrics and made-ups declined *.** per cent to $***.** million.
