JNVST Class 6 registration 2027 begins

The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has released the official notification and prospectus for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) 2027 for admission to Class 6. Eligible students can now submit their applications for admission to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) for the 2027-28 academic session.According to the official schedule, the last date to apply is July 31, 2026. The entrance examination will be held on November 28, 2026, while the result is going to be announced by March/April 2027.The examination is scheduled earlier than in the previous two years.

Eligibility criteria

Students can appear for JNVST only once. To be eligible, candidates must meet all of the following conditions:

  • They should be studying in Class 5 during the 2026-27 academic session in a recognised school.
  • They must be a bona fide resident of the district where admission is being sought.
  • They should have studied and completed Classes 3, 4 and 5 in recognised schools.
  • They must have been born between May 1, 2015, and July 31, 2017 (both dates inclusive).
  • Students who have already passed or repeated Class 5 are not eligible to apply.

New district-specific admission rule

NVS has introduced a district-specific admission rule for this year’s admission process. Students can apply only for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya located in their district of residence.However, if a student studies in a neighbouring district, the school must be located within a 10-km aerial distance from the student’s residence. The details will be verified by NVS during the admission process. Applications submitted for the wrong district will be rejected even after provisional selection.

JNVST 2027 exam pattern

The selection test will be conducted in Offline OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) mode.The paper will contain 80 objective-type questions carrying a total of 100 marks. Each correct answer will receive 1.25 marks, and there will be no negative marking for incorrect answers.

Candidates must secure the minimum qualifying marks prescribed in each section. They should use only a blue or black ballpoint pen to mark answers on the OMR sheet, as the use of pencils is not allowed.NVS has also advised candidates to carefully check that the OMR sheet and the question booklet carry the same number. If there is any mismatch, it should be reported to the invigilator immediately.
