Several states are expected to observe holidays during July for local festivals and commemorative events.July 16: Rath Yatra and HarelaSchools in states celebrating Rath Yatra are likely to remain closed on July 16, 2026. The festival is commonly observed in Odisha, Manipur and parts of West Bengal, although the holiday may not be compulsory for every government or private school.The same day also marks Harela, a traditional festival celebrated in parts of Himachal Pradesh, where schools may remain closed in accordance with state notifications.July 29: Guru PurnimaGuru Purnima, which will fall on July 29, 2026, can be celebrated via school holidays or functions in many states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh.There may also be schools that opt for conducting cultural programs, prayers, and teacher appreciation activities rather than celebrating a holiday.July 31: Shaheed Udham Singh Martyrdom DaySchools in Punjab, Haryana and certain neighbouring regions are generally expected to remain closed on July 31, 2026, to mark the Martyrdom Day of Shaheed Udham Singh. The observance commemorates the freedom fighter’s contribution to India’s independence movement.Weekly Sunday holidaysApart from festival-related closures, schools across the country will remain shut on all Sundays during the month.
