Netherlands June inflation slows, supporting retail pricing

Consumer inflation in the Netherlands slowed in June 2026, giving retail and apparel pricing teams a softer cost backdrop than in May, according to a recent data from the Statistics Netherlands (CBS). The data showed consumer goods and services were 2.9 per cent more expensive than in June 2025, compared with a year-on-year (Yoy) rise of 3.5 per cent in May.On a month-on-month (Mom) basis, consumer prices were 0.6 per cent lower in June than in May.

The June inflation rate matched the flash estimate published on July 1. For short-term comparisons, it noted that seasonal factors can affect price movements; clothing, for example, is cheaper during sales periods, which does not amount to a structural price decline, CBS said in a press release.

Motor fuels had a downward effect on the headline rate: they were 17.3 per cent more expensive than a year earlier in June, after being 27.5 per cent higher YoY in May.

The European Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) put Dutch inflation at 2.5 per cent YoY in June, down from 3.4 per cent in May. Euro area HICP inflation as a whole fell to 2.8 per cent in June from 3.2 per cent in May.
