Noel's daughter Maya may exit Tata Digital

MUMBAI: Amid a sweeping restructuring at Tata Digital, Maya Tata, the daughter of Tata Trusts chairman Noel Tata, is exploring a move out of the company, said people familiar with the matter.Maya, 37, is weighing roles across several Tata Group companies, including Trent and Tata Consumer Products, with people saying she is favouring the listed retailer. The move comes as Tata Digital faces heightened scrutiny from Noel, who has raised concerns about losses at the business amid a broader stand-off over the reappointment of Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran for a third term.Tata Sons has invested more than Rs 24,000 crore in Tata Digital, which houses BigBasket, Tata Neu, Croma, and Tata 1mg. Tata Neu has seen its headcount cut by more than half as part of the restructuring.Should she join Trent, Maya would be the second of Noel’s three children at the company. Her brother Neville is already with Trent, where he handles the Star Bazaar stores. Noel is the chairman of Trent. Their older sister Leah, 40, is at Indian Hotels, which runs the Taj chain. Unlike Neville and Leah, who have each stayed with a single group company since joining, Maya has moved across businesses beginning her career at Tata Capital before her stint at Tata Digital. All three siblings sit on the boards of smaller entities within Tata Trusts, the principal shareholder of Tata Sons. Neville, however, also holds a board seat at Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, one of the two main charitable trusts that anchor the group’s ownership structure.
