RILA has urged meaningful engagement as the US, Mexico and Canada enter the formal USMCA review.
The group says preserving duty-free treatment for qualifying goods is vital for stable retail and consumer supply chains.
A textile, apparel, footwear and retail coalition is also pressing leaders to retain the pact’s core trilateral framework.
The association also said duty-free treatment for USMCA-qualifying goods should be preserved to support the growth it says the agreement has generated.
Ellen Jackson, director, RILA said: “USMCA provides the certainty retailers need to plan supply chains, invest in North America, and keep goods moving efficiently for consumers. Supply chains take years to establish. A strong agreement helps businesses deliver the products families need and protects consumers from disruptions caused by prolonged uncertainty. To continue sustaining the growth the agreement has spurred, it is imperative to preserve duty-free treatment for USMCA-qualifying goods.”
RILA also joined a letter to leaders from the three countries from groups representing the textile, apparel, footwear and retail industries across the United States, Mexico and Canada. The coalition urged preservation of the agreement’s trilateral framework, saying it provides clear rules and a long-term structure for jobs, investment and regional trade.
Retailers are prepared to work with the administration, Congress and North American stakeholders on an agreement that supports regional competitiveness and a stable trading relationship among the three countries, added the release.
