A teacher encourages a specially abled student to complete his race

The viral clip shows a teacher and student walking side by side in heavy rain on a running track, the teacher pushing a paediatric wheelchair as they make their way, unhurried, toward the finish line. It was filmed at the Matsushita Sports Centre in Selangor, Malaysia. The original version was shared on TikTok by user abuzarghfry_, and has also gone viral on several other media platforms, and is captioned, “The sacrifice of a school teacher — even in the rain, (she) still supports the spirit of special education students.” According to the caption, the teacher is identified as Nur Jamilah, and the student as Hafiz.

The teacher’s slow walk becomes the child’s motivation

Over the course of the 36-second video, Nur Jamilah stays close to Hafiz the entire way, matching his pace as he pushes himself across the track despite the downpour. There’s no rush in the footage, no visible frustration, just steady, patient company, and this patient behaviour of the teacher is what wins people’s hearts online.

What happened after the pair crossed the finish line?

Once the pair crossed the finish line, another woman appeared in the video, holding a red umbrella, and quickly moved to shield the teacher and Hafiz from the rain. Nur Jamilah is then seen helping Hafiz into his wheelchair, and the three of them head off together toward the shelter..

Social media response

The reaction online has been largely emotional. One commenter wrote, “This child’s spirit is strong, we don’t know him but I pray that he will always be surrounded by good people like his teacher”. Another viewer wrote that the video kept getting “blurry” the longer they watched, meaning they cried.Another user added, “Truly touching. A teacher who not only teaches, but also demonstrates the meaning of humanity in the rain. Thank you for reminding us all.” A different user added, “In an education system that often focuses too much on numbers and administration, this moment serves as a stark reminder that humanity must remain the core of the curriculum.”
