NEW DELHI: England star Jude Bellingham was involved in a heated confrontation with Argentina players after England’s heartbreaking 2-1 defeat in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semifinal at Atlanta Stadium in Atlanta on Wednesday.A video that has gone viral on social media shows Bellingham first shaking hands with Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez before walking towards defender Valentin Barco in an aggressive manner. The England midfielder then appeared to tap Barco on the back of the head. The incident then turned into a heated exchange, with players from both teams pushing each other.During the match, another video also showed Bellingham arguing with Argentina captain Lionel Messi.

England’s World Cup dream ends

England faced defending champions Argentina for a place in the final at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Three Lions took the lead in the 55th minute but failed to hold on as Argentina scored twice late in the game to seal a dramatic 2-1 victory. The defeat ended England’s hopes of reaching only their second FIFA World Cup final.Bellingham, who had scored six goals and provided two assists in this year’s tournament, was unable to find the net for the third straight knockout match.England will now face France in the third-place playoff.

Argentina one win away from history

Argentina will now take on Spain in Sunday’s World Cup final in East Rutherford, New Jersey. A victory would make the defending champions the first team since Brazil (1958 and 1962) to win back-to-back FIFA World Cup titles.
