US clothing and accessories store sales rose 0.63 per cent from May and 13.65 per cent from June 2025, outpacing broader retail.
Retail excluding automobile dealers and gasoline rose for a ninth month, up 0.33 per cent from May and 9.41 per cent from a year earlier.
Core sales rose 0.36 per cent from May and 10.08 per cent annually; NRF cited summer events and early back-to-school buying.
Clothing and accessories store sales rose 0.63 per cent MoM on a seasonally adjusted basis in June and were up 13.65 per cent YoY unadjusted, as broader retail sales advanced for a ninth consecutive month, the NRF said in a press release.
Core retail sales, which also exclude restaurants, rose 0.36 per cent MoM in June and 10.08 per cent YoY, compared with 0.39 per cent and 6.98 per cent in May, respectively.
Unusually large annual increases reflected comparison with slow sales in June 2025; on a seasonally adjusted basis, total sales were up 4.26 per cent and core sales rose 4.23 per cent.
Matthew Shay, president and chief executive officer, National Retail Federation said: “The summer shopping season got off to a strong start in June. Consumers took advantage of summer sales events, and many got an early jump on back-to-school shopping. The willingness to spend on retail goods has been supported by the retail industry’s laser focus on affordability as well as a durable labor market. Year-over-year gains look particularly strong compared with a weak June 2025.”
For the first half, unadjusted total sales were up 6.81 per cent YoY and core sales rose 6.84 per cent. June sales increased YoY across all categories, led by sporting goods and clothing stores, while monthly sales were higher in seven of nine categories.
