Who is Puneet Sharma, the Axis Bank CFO who has resigned?

Axis Bank on Monday announced that its chief financial officer, Puneet Sharma, has resigned. Sharma, who has led the bank’s finance function since March 2020, stepped down on Sunday, June 28, and will remain with the lender until August 31. During his time at the private sector lender, Sharma served as the group head and chief financial officer. Apart from leading the bank’s finance function, he was also responsible for its legal, secretarial, investor relations and procurement functions.Under ‌his ⁠tenure, stock prices nearly doubled to 1,356.80 rupees, as of Monday’s close.The bank said Sharma resigned to pursue ⁠the next phase of his professional career. It did not provide other ⁠details or name a successor in Monday’s exchange filing.Sharma bought more than 20 years of experience in finance. Before joining Axis Bank, he spent 12 years at Tata Capital, where he held senior leadership positions and worked closely with the company’s Board. From 2014 onwards, he was the group head and chief financial officer of Tata Capital Limited and Tata Capital Financial Services Limited, overseeing financial control, financial planning, procurement and taxation.Earlier in his career, Sharma was associated with Citibank NA, where he handled responsibilities spanning structured cash solutions, treasury operations, risk monitoring and reporting on fixed-income securities.His professional journey began at Bharat S Raut & Co before he moved to the Boston Consulting Group, where he advised financial services clients on strategy, transformation and process improvement.In addition to his role at Axis Bank, Sharma serves as the bank’s nominee director on the boards of Axis Finance Limited and Axis Securities Limited.A chartered accountant by qualification, Sharma holds a bachelor of commerce degree from Mumbai University and is also an alumnus of the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.
