Xi, Rahman agree to build China-Myanmar-Bangladesh corridor

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today announced the decision to build a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era, elevating bilateral relations to a higher level.

Placing regional connectivity at the centre of the discussions, Xi said China is ready to advance the development of the China-Myanmar-Bangladesh Economic Corridor (CMBC) to strengthen regional connectivity, according to a release issued by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman agreed to build a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future, elevating bilateral ties.
Xi prioritised advancing the China-Myanmar-Bangladesh Economic Corridor to strengthen regional connectivity and pledged deeper Belt and Road cooperation across green development, digital technologies and AI.

He also pledged to deepen high-quality Belt and Road cooperation by aligning development strategies and expanding collaboration in green and low-carbon development, the digital economy, information technology, artificial intelligence (AI), healthcare, culture and education.

Xi said China attaches great importance to its ties with Bangladesh and is prepared to deepen strategic communication, strengthen political mutual trust and expand exchanges on governance while continuing mutual support on each other’s core interests.

The President added that China will continue supporting Bangladesh’s new government in its governance efforts and strengthen coordination with Dhaka through multilateral platforms, including the United Nations, to promote inclusive economic globalisation and safeguard the interests of the Global South.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh PM Rahman said that Bangladesh aims to expand cooperation with China in trade, connectivity, agriculture, technology, green energy, education and healthcare, while advancing Belt and Road cooperation.
