ACME has signed long-term offtake agreements with Japan’s IHI for green ammonia and MGC for green methanol under India’s NGHM.
The export-linked volumes add visibility for low-carbon fuel value chains relevant to maritime logistics and cross-border supply chains.
Japanese CfD support and compliance targets may shape future clean-fuel sourcing from India for importers and supply-chain planners.
The NGHM was approved in January 2023 to support India’s production, use and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives. The Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Programme provides financial support for production through bidding conducted by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). ACME has been awarded 370,000 tonnes per annum of capacity under SIGHT, forming the basis for these export-linked agreements.
The IHI arrangement is supported by Japan’s Contract for Difference (CfD) scheme for low-carbon ammonia, administered by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), which provides price support to Japanese off-takers. The source said the agreements are among the largest green ammonia and methanol offtake commitments from India to Japan to date.
The signings took place in the presence of officials from India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, representatives of the Government of Japan and leaders from ACME Group, IHI Corporation and MGC. The partnerships are expected to reinforce long-term demand for capacities created under the SIGHT Programme and support stable low-carbon fuel supply from India to Japan.
