Bangladesh has set an export target of $63.4 billion for FY27, aiming for a 15-per cent growth over the income achieved in the last fiscal, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir announced.
Of the total, $55.2 billion is expected to come from merchandise exports, while the rest is projected to come from services exports.
The country failed to achieve its export target in the last fiscal.
Expressing optimism about achieving the target, he said all existing factors have been taken into account in setting the new export target while unveiling the external trade plan.
The export target for goods and services was set at $63.5 billion in the last fiscal. Out of this, the target was $55 billion from goods and $8.5 billion from services.
The minister said the country failed to achieve its export target in the last fiscal, according to domestic media reports.
Export diversification would remain a key priority as the readymade garment sector now contributes around 85 per cent of the country’s total export earnings, he noted.
To reduce dependence on a single sector, he mentioned that the government has identified leather and leather products, shipbuilding and ship recycling, light engineering and information technology as priority sectors for export expansion.
