China grants zero-tariff treatment to 63 countries

China has extended zero-tariff treatment to 63 countries as part of efforts to expand high-standard opening up and strengthen global trade links, the country’s top customs official said on Wednesday.Speaking at a press briefing, Sun Meijun, head of the General Administration of Customs (GAC), said the customs authority would continue to diversify trade markets during the 2026–2030 period while advancing policies aimed at supporting greater trade liberalisation.

In May, China introduced expanded zero-tariff treatment for imports from all 53 African countries with which it has diplomatic relations.

China-Africa trade rose 19.6 per cent YoY in the first half of 2026, and customs authorities plan to further streamline trade procedures and implement high-standard trade agreements.

To support the policy, the GAC has implemented risk-based customs management, streamlined market access procedures and expanded green channels for agricultural and food products.

China’s trade with Africa rose by 19.6 per cent year on year (YoY) in the first half of 2026, reflecting the impact of the measures.

Looking ahead, the customs authority said it would continue implementing high-standard opening-up measures and trade agreements, while improving alignment on customs procedures, quarantine requirements and rules of origin to facilitate international trade, as per a local media outlet.
