EU, euro area inflation ease in June: Eurostat

The euro area annual inflation rate was 2.8 per cent in June 2026, down from 3.2 per cent in May, while it stood at 2.0 per cent a year earlier, according to the Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union (EU). European Union annual inflation was 2.9 per cent in June, down from 3.3 per cent in May; a year earlier, the rate was 2.3 per cent.The lowest annual rates were recorded in Sweden at 1.0 per cent, Czechia at 1.1 per cent and Denmark at 1.8 per cent, according to Eurostat. The highest annual rates were in Romania at 9.2 per cent, Lithuania at 5.4 per cent and Bulgaria at 5.2 per cent. Compared with May 2026, annual inflation fell in 22 Member States, remained stable in three and rose in two.

Euro area annual inflation eased to 2.8 per cent in June 2026 from 3.2 per cent in May, while European Union inflation fell to 2.9 per cent from 3.3 per cent, according to the Eurostat.
Inflation fell in 22 Member States, was stable in three and rose in two; Sweden, Czechia and Denmark had the lowest rates, with Romania highest at 9.2 per cent.

In June 2026, the positive contributions to the annual euro area inflation rate came from services at 1.51 percentage points, energy at 0.77 percentage points, food, alcohol and tobacco at 0.29 percentage points and non-energy industrial goods at 0.18 percentage points, the Eurostat said in a press release.

Eurostat’s flash estimate for euro area inflation for June 2026, published on July 1, 2026, was 2.8 per cent.
