During the day, the young athlete adheres to rigorous training with stringent discipline and a strict diet. As the sun sets, he dons a uniform and directs car drivers as a security guard to earn his living. Hailing from Munsyari in Uttarakhand, the fighter trains in Dehradun and continues to share optimistic posts on social media.

A fighter by day; a guard by night

Professional athletes are often imagined achieving accolades and rankings after practising in high-tech facilities and with professional trainers. That’s not the case with the dauntless MMA fighter, Vicky Singh Tomkyal. His bare minimum paychecks are not invested in luxuries or the latest gear on the market, but in his family and responsibilities, as well as in improving his skills for the upcoming fights. The athlete, who remains active on social media with a loyal fan following of 17.1k, often shares glimpses of his day, training records, and advice on diets. With basic facilities like gloves and an open space, Vicky dedicates his blood, sweat, and tears to attain expertise in the sport that demands flexibility, speed, and strength. Vicky consistently experiments with a variety of techniques with grit, including gorilla boxing drills, lifting tyres, pull-ups, wrestling, planks, weight exercises, and many more. In one of the clips shared by the athlete on social media, he attached a pillow to a punching bag and kept it on a cylinder to practice for an MMA fight. The series of reels follows his match sequences, practising knockout combos with fellow enthusiasts. He often practices in an open public ground instead of professional setups.

Vicky Singh Tomkyal juggles his life to balance work and his dream, enduring challenges by going the extra mile. Despite fatigue, he does not postpone his training and fights a whole other batter altogether behind the cameras. Some are saying come here, some are saying go there. But guys, I’m happy in India,” he said in his recent post, before adding, “Who are the supporters? You are. If my videos get 4 million in a day, you are the supporters.” Urging people to encourage every game and champion the athletes, he shared, “Support every game equally, then look how much talent India has. So, guys, will you support?”Vicky Singh Tomkyal’s journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, showcasing that dreams do not need conditions to survive. His little steps towards a greater goal have not only made his determination inspiring but gratifying.
