France’s June CPI falls 0.3%; annual inflation slows to 1.8%

France’s consumer price index (CPI) fell by 0.3 per cent month on month in June 2026 after rising by 0.1 per cent in May, while annual consumer inflation eased to 1.8 per cent from 2.4 per cent, INSEE said. Manufactured product prices decreased by 0.4 per cent over the month after a 0.1 per cent rise in May and fell by 1.1 per cent year on year after a 0.6 per cent decline. Clothing and footwear prices were down 2.3 per cent year on year after being stable in May, due to the greater number of seasonal sales days in June 2026 than in June 2025.

The monthly CPI decline was led by energy, where prices dropped 4.2 per cent after a 0.6 per cent rise in May, with petroleum products down 7.0 per cent after a 1.9 per cent decline. Food prices fell by 0.3 per cent over the month after a 0.3 per cent increase, while services rose by 0.5 per cent after being stable.

France’s CPI declined 0.3 per cent month on month in June 2026, while annual inflation eased to 1.8 per cent from 2.4 per cent in May.
Clothing and footwear prices fell 2.3 per cent year on year, linked to seasonal-sales calendar effects.
Lower manufactured-product prices give fashion retail and sourcing teams a clearer read on consumer price trends.

Year on year, energy prices slowed to an 11.0 per cent rise from 16.6 per cent in May. Services inflation eased to 1.9 per cent from 2.1 per cent and food inflation to 0.9 per cent from 1.1 per cent, according to the release.

The release also showed core inflation declining to 1.0 per cent year on year in June from 1.5 per cent in May. The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices fell 0.3 per cent over the month and rose 2.0 per cent year on year after a 2.8 per cent annual increase in May.
