Germany’s imports from China rise 6.2% in Jan-May 2026

China remained Germany’s most important trading partner in terms of imports during January-May 2026, as German imports from China increased year on year (YoY) and the bilateral import surplus widened, according to the Federal Statistical Office of Germany (Destatis).German imports from China stood at €72.4 billion (~$82.54 billion) in the first five months of 2026, up 6.2 per cent from the same period a year earlier, Destatis said in a press release.

Germany’s import surplus with China widened to €42.8 billion (~$48.79 billion) from €33.5 billion a year earlier.

Imports in May 2026 rose 2.1 per cent to €14 billion, compared with €13.7 billion in May 2025.

Germany’s import surplus in trade with China increased to €42.8 billion (~$48.79 billion) in January-May 2026, from €33.5 billion in the corresponding period of 2025.
