Mixed trend persists in south India cotton yarn, demand up in Mumbai

Mumbai market showed a positive tone in cotton yarn prices. Cotton yarn prices of finer counts have risen ****;*–* per kg due to higher export demand. Recent rise in fabric prices also supported cotton yarn prices. A trader from Mumbai market told Fibre*Fashion, “Spinning mills have raised their prices, supported by improving export demand and higher international cotton prices. Domestic fabric prices have also moved up, with buying activity beginning to recover.”

In Mumbai, ** carded yarns of warp and weft varieties were traded at ****;*,***–*,*** (~$**.**–**.**) and ****;*,***–*,*** (~$**.**–**.**) per * kg (excluding GST), respectively. Other prices included ** combed warp at ****;***–*** (~$*.**–*.**) per kg, ** carded weft at ****;*,***–*,*** (~$**.**–**.**) per *.* kg, **/** carded warp at ****;***–*** (~$*.**–*.**) per kg, **/** carded warp at ****;***–*** (~$*.**–*.**) per kg, and **/** combed warp at ****;***–*** (~$*.**–*.**) per kg, according to trade sources.

However, cotton yarn trade continued to see bearish tone in the Tiruppur market due to slow demand from the downstream industry. According to market sources, sentiments did not improve as buyers remained reluctant for aggressive buying. Garment export inquiries have improved in the last couple of weeks, but actual orders are still limited. Foreign importers are reluctant for aggressive buying amid economic and political uncertainty.”
