North India cotton yarn shows mixed trend; Delhi prices rise

The Delhi market witnessed a price increase of ****;* per kg for cotton yarn of all counts and varieties, following the upward trend in upstream raw material prices. Cotton yarn was sold at higher prices as cotton prices had risen earlier. A trader from the Delhi market told Fibre*Fashion, “Rising cotton prices have increased the cost of yarn production. Spinning mills have raised their prices to cover the additional costs. Stockists also increased their offers to benefit from the positive market trend. However, the Delhi market did not witness any significant improvement in cotton yarn demand. The market saw average demand from the consuming industry.”

In Delhi, **-count combed knitting yarn was traded at ****;****** (~$*.***.**) per kg (GST extra), **-count combed yarn at ****;****** (~$*.***.**) per kg, **-count carded yarn at ****;****** (~$*.***.**) per kg, and **-count carded yarn at ****;****** (~$*.***.**) per kg, according to market sources.

Cotton yarn prices hovered near previous levels in the Ludhiana market, although demand from the downstream industry improved. According to market sources, spinning mills are focusing more on the domestic market to increase cotton yarn sales. The recent rise in cotton prices encouraged buyers to build up raw material inventories. Fabric demand also improved as garment manufacturing activities picked up in recent weeks.

In Ludhiana, **-count cotton combed yarn was sold at ****;****** (~$*.***.**) per kg (inclusive of GST); **-count and **-count combed yarn were traded at ****;****** (~$*.***.**) per kg and ****;****** (~$*.***.**) per kg, respectively; while **-count carded yarn was quoted at ****;****** (~$*.***.**) per kg, according to trade sources.
