PET bottle chips: Decline pauses, prices tick higher in latest week
The price of Polyester PET Bottle Chips rebound reflects improving cost support from stabilising PTA (Purified Terephthalic Acid) prices, prompting bottle-grade PET producers to reduce discounting and gradually restore margins.
This indicates that the recent phase of lower raw material costs may be nearing its end, making current price levels a favourable procurement opportunity before any sustained recovery in feedstock values pushes bottle-chip prices higher. The weakness largely mirrored the decline in upstream PTA prices, as bottle-grade PET producers passed lower feedstock costs through to buyers.
PET bottle chip prices fell steadily across nearly every regional market, before reversing direction in the last few days. Over the full stretch from mid-June to early July, CIF South Korea dropped from $*.** per kg to around $*.** per kg (down roughly ** per cent), Domestic China fell from $*.*** per kg to $*.** per kg (down * per cent), FOB China slipped from $*.*** per kg to $*.** per kg (down * per cent), FOB Northeast Asia declined from $*.** per kg to $*.** per kg (down ** per cent), and FOB Southeast Asia dropped from $*.** per kg to $*.** per kg (down nearly ** per cent) — the steepest regional pullback.
