South India cotton yarn prices rise on delayed sowing, better demand

Mumbai market noticed further gains in certain counts and varieties of cotton yarn. Although, there was no significant movement in other counts. The price rose by ****;*–* per kg in cotton yarn of **s, **s and **s. A trader from Mumbai market told Fibre*Fashion, “The overall market sentiment remains positive. Traders, along with spinning mills, are raising yarn prices in anticipation of stronger demand next week and an increasingly tight cotton yarn supply. Production has picked up, which is a positive sign for the industry. If fabric demand also strengthens in the coming weeks, the cotton yarn market is likely to witness a more substantial upward movement in prices.”

In Mumbai, ** carded yarns of warp and weft varieties were traded at ****;*,***–*,*** (~$**.**–**.**) and ****;*,***–*,*** (~$**.**–**.**) per * kg (excluding GST), respectively. Tiruppur market also noted positive tone in cotton yarn trade. Its prices increased by ****;*–* per kg due to tightness in cotton. Downstream industry is also picking up slightly as consumer industry ramped up purchase for restocking of raw materials. According to market sources, positive tone was noticed after reports of delayed cotton sowing. Rising cotton prices encouraged mills to quote higher rates. Buyers seem more inclined for the purchase of the raw material.
