Polyester yarn extends decline in India; viscose shows mixed trend

Polyester yarn prices declined further by ****;*–* per kg as polyester fibre became cheaper following the fall in crude oil prices. Polyester spun yarn fell by ****;* per kg, while speciality yarn eased by ****;*–* per kg. Major Indian producers revised polyester fibre prices downward by ****;* per kg for July ****. They also unusually reviewed and slashed feedstock prices in the middle of the week. A trader from the Surat market told Fibre*Fashion, “Buyers are avoiding bulk purchases as polyester fibre and yarn prices have not fallen in the same proportion as crude oil prices. The consumer industry is waiting for prices to return to normal levels, which are still higher than pre-war levels.”

In the Surat market, ** count polyester spun yarn was traded at ****;***–*** (~$*.**–*.**) per kg (GST extra); ** count polyester spun yarn at ****;***–*** (~$*.**–*.**) per kg; **/** fully drawn yarn (FDY) at ****;***–*** (~$*.**–*.**) per kg; **/** FDY at ****;***–*** (~$*.**–*.**) per kg; and ** bright yarn at ****;***–*** (~$*.**–*.**) per kg.

In the Ludhiana market, polyester yarn followed a declining trend as polyester fibre and its raw materials became cheaper in line with falling crude oil prices. Polyester fibre eased by ****;*–* per kg following the decline in feedstock costs, while polyester yarn prices registered steeper corrections. Virgin polyester spun yarn fell by ****;* per kg, while ** count recycled polyester yarn declined by up to ****;* per kg. Market sources said polyester yarn prices weakened due to lower upstream raw material costs and subdued demand. Meanwhile, polyester-cotton yarn remained stable.
