South India witnesses higher cotton yarn demand, prices steady

The Mumbai cotton yarn market remained stable in terms of prices, while demand was encouraging. Higher consumption by power looms boosted overall cotton yarn demand. A trader from the Mumbai market told Fibre*Fashion, “Power loom production has increased significantly as the labour shortage has eased, leading to higher fabric production. Even heavy rains in several parts of western India have not dampened optimism across the textile value chain, as they are being viewed as temporary disruptions that occur from time to time.”

In Mumbai, ** count carded warp and weft yarns were traded at ****;*,****,*** (~$**.****.**) and ****;*,****,*** (~$**.****.**) per * kg (excluding GST), respectively. Other prices included ** count combed warp at ****;****** (~$*.***.**) per kg, ** count carded weft at ****;*,****,*** (~$**.****.**) per *.* kg, **/** count carded warp at ****;****** (~$*.***.**) per kg, **/** count carded warp at ****;****** (~$*.***.**) per kg, and **/** count combed warp at ****;****** (~$*.***.**) per kg, according to trade sources.

In the Tiruppur market, cotton yarn demand remained positive, with buyers becoming more active in making fresh purchases ahead of the festival season. Market sources said that both domestic and export demand continued to support cotton yarn trade. Firm cotton prices also encouraged buying activity in the yarn market.
